Clayoquot Sound Sea Kayaking Tours
The Islands
The islands of Clayoquot Sound are just a short paddle from Tofino. The main Islands include Meares Island, Vargas Island and Flores Island. There are many smaller islands that dot the landscape and make the area a jewel to explore. Each island is beribboned with beaches and populated with rich forests. There are hiking trails on each of the main islands as well as hidden coves and inlets to explore.
Itinerary:
Orientation:
On the evening before your
tour we will treat you to coffee or tea and go over any last minute trip
details and answer any questions you may have. This will be very brief so
you have your evening to complete
your trip preparations or to enjoy exploring Tofino.
Day 1
We will meet at the
public dock with hot coffee waiting and begin packing the boats. Once we are
packed we will adjust the boats to your personal needs, have an introductory
paddling lesson and a safety talk. We will launch and set off for our first
destination - the islands! The first day's paddle is all about getting
comfortable in your boat. Finding your speed and paddling technique
developing into a rhythm that works for you will give you a level of comfort
to enjoy your spectacular surroundings. We will spend the first night camped
on one of many sandy beaches. Relax and explore while we prepare dinner. A
warm drift wood fire will end our first day gently. Climb into your snug
sleeping bag and sleep soundly.

Day 2
After
waking refreshed we will have a hearty breakfast before our day's adventure.
For the early riser feel free to join our light yoga stretches to limber up
for paddling before breakfast. Today is a day for exploring! We will paddle
to nearby islands to get a feeling for how diverse this area is. Each beach
is a new discovery.
The wealth of life in a small tidal pool can be amazing. Developing and
practicing your paddling skills will give you a sense of accomplishment when
we return to base camp for the day. Enjoying fellowship, humor and stories
around the fire will round out day 2.

Day 3
Beginning your day with some
stretching on the beach is invigorating! After breakfast we will pack up and
begin our return trip to Tofino. If we are lucky we may see some grey whales
feeding, or sight some porpoises
hunting in the area. Bald eagles and blue heron are plentiful, especially in
June and July. Killer whales are occasionally seen in these waters. We plan
to arrive in Tofino early enough for you to plan travel arrangements.
